Honda Pilot Road Departure Mitigation System

What is the Honda Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)?

Using a specialized windshield-mounted camera system, the Road Departure Mitigation System can identify the side of the road including painted lane lines, Botts’ Dots, and cats-eye markers. In the event that this system detects that your vehicle is about to leave the road, the driver is immediately alerted with a warning message in the Driver Information Interface. Afterward, the system can take control of the electric power steering system (EPS) to guide the vehicle back into its detected lane or even apply the brakes to prevent the vehicle from leaving the road altogether.

How Do I Use the Road Departure Mitigation System?

Since the system is automatically activated when the vehicle begins to stray from its intended course, simply driving your vehicle as you normally would means that you’re always protected by the RDM system. If your turn signal is not activated and lane drift has been detected, the system will activate and attempt to take corrective action. Remember, RDM may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, and road condition. You as the driver remain responsible for safely operating the vehicle and avoiding collisions.

Currently, all Honda models are either equipped with Road Departure Mitigation as standard equipment or it’s available as an option on higher trim levels.
